My mother sent a photo last week of spring flowers shooting up, winter still in Ohio. Confused, or hopeful? I know where I’m landing on this. It’s a new year, and with that comes new energy that we can choose to direct. This thing that we can have every day if we deliberately, mindfully, recognize it: Hello, Morning. Let’s reset and begin again.
Whether a daily rising meditation, new year resolution, or the seed for planting during the upcoming new moon in Aquarius on January 21, I offer some guiding questions to explore and creative ritual ideas to try.
At this new beginning (new year, new moon, new day), what is a new/renewed quality I want to foster and grow within myself?
-Write down the word or phrase and hang it up. Or create art, dance, or music as representation.
Is there an image / color / symbol / archetype / superhero that represents how I want to embody life in 2023?
-Incorporate this into your everyday life. Examples: 1) wear the color, 2) create an altar inlcuding the symbol / color / archetype / superhero, 3) make up a representational song and sing/play it, or dance/movement.
Write a New Beginnings letter to yourself. Seal it and open and read it a year from now.
Light a candle. Speak aloud one aspect of your life you intend to leave behind. Visualize it or draw it, and then give it thanks and wave goodbye (literally!) Speak aloud one aspect of your life you intend to begin or renew. Give this aspect thanks, and visualize it in your life (or sketch/write the scene) as you place your palm on your heart and breathe. Allow the candle to burn through, or when you blow it out, intend that the light continue to shine on your intention.
Each moment is an opportunity to begin again, just as each new day and year we are reminded of this renewal. Everything is in motion, and possibilities abound.
