Suddenly, it seems, the air is cool and the light more gentle. There’s a stillness today, a nudge to slow down. I have found myself overwhelmed these past few weeks (or longer, ha!). I'm sure many of you can relate. I'm welcoming the change. Appreciating nature showing me.
As I was trying to keep up with everything these past few weeks, this is what came to me: Just for today. And I was able to take a deep breath, come back to the moment.
"Just for today" is the beginning line of each of the five Reiki principles (I explain more below). In that moment I couldn't even remember all five, but I got the same sense of ease I used to. I learned the principles over a decade ago during my training, and just as I'd been instructed, repeated them daily as part of my meditation. I also had them framed and hung on the wall in my practice space. And with time, and wall-hanging packed away, forgot about them.
"Just for today" lets us off the hook, allows us to ease up, take pressure off. It's a way of saying, "I don't have to commit to this principle forever. I'll do my best today. No need to worry about tomorrow." It keeps us in the moment, right now.
Here's what I'm repeating today:
Just for today, I will slow down. Just for today I will ease up on myself and others. Just for today, I will breathe with gratitude.
Feel free to make up lines that feel right for you. Wishing you much ease and beauty!
